Great news for SXSW!

RED Camera Texas is now partnering with Lightpress, a post-production facility in Seattle, to offer a discount on RED post-production services. Any production that rents a camera from RED Camera Texas will receive ten percent off post-production services at Lightpress, allowing the two companies to offer the full range of RED production and post-production services at a very competitive rate. The close working relationship between RED Camera Texas and Lightpress allows a production to benefit from a seamless workflow from camera tests and production through offlining, color grading and finishing.

Lightpress offers a range of services for data-based projects, including digital dailies, color grading, finishing, and data archiving for RED productions. Lightpress recently purchased the Quantel IQ Pablo 4k with the Neo color console in order to meet the increasing demand for the Digital Intermediate (DI) workflows of commercial, feature, and high-end corporate productions. The Quantel IQ Pablo 4k is the ultimate RED color grading and finishing tool and the only system capable of playing 4k data (including .r3d files).

Visit Lightpress to see samples of their work and to learn more about what they offer.

RED Camera Panel at SXSW 2009

February 23rd, 2009 · John Fiege

I’ll be on a panel this year at SXSW that’s cross-listed between Film and Interactive. We’ll be talking about the RED camera production workflow, among other things. It’s called “Hey - You Got Your p2 In My Redcode!”:

“With a plethora of new HD production formats available, how does a director or producer decide which one to shoot in? This panel will debate the benefits of IT-based HD production workflows, including Red One’s Redcode, Panasonic’s p2 - in DVCPRO and AVC-Intra flavors; Sony’s XDCAM EX, and options for capturing HD video directly to computer over digital connections.”

If you have a SXSW Film or Interactive badge, come check it out:

Room 12AB
Monday, March 16, 2009
10:00 am - 11:00 am

Here’s the Interactive listing.

I justed added a new gallery of production stills from Amy Bench’s short film, In This Place.  They shot with the RED, together with 35mm, in December.  Hua Liu is the Director of Photography, and Alan Lampert is the Production Designer.  The photos show a wide variety of studio and location shoots, including their green screen work.  Many thanks to Amy, Hua and others on the film for letting me use the photos.  Check out the photos in the gallery or in the Flickr Set.

This past fall, Director Paul Gordon teamed up with RED Camera Texas to shoot his feature film, The Happy Poet, here in Austin. Lucas Millard photographed the film, and David Hartstein produced. I just uploaded some photos from one of their shoot days at Auditorium Shores, in downtown Austin. Check them out in the gallery or on the Flickr Set.
